Lesson 4 - Using dialog history lists and the toolbar

Now it is time to learn about some additional features of Wintrack's user interface: dialog history lists and the toolbar. We will do this while adding more cases and variables to the scrollsheet we have built in lesson 3.

Opening documents using the toolbar...

  1. Click the Open Scrollsheet button of the toolbar while pressing and holding down the Shift key. The Open Scrollsheet dialog is displayed:
    • Press the button of the dialog field labeled scrollsheet file. A standard Windows™ File Open dialog box is displayed. Use it to select the file TUTOR1.WTB in your WINTRACK directory. This is the file you have created during the previous lesson. Press Ok to close the standard File Open dialog.
    • In the dialog field Window, click minimize: Wintrack will display the scrollsheet as an icon.
    • Press Ok to close the dialog box. Wintrack opens the scrollsheet.
  2. Click the Open Case Document button of the toolbar while pressing and holding down the Shift key. The Open Case Document dialog is displayed:
    • Press the button located next to the dialog field labeled case file. The drop down history list of the field opens. It contains name and path of the case documents SWIM1.WTR to SWIM3.WTR. All dialog fields in Wintrack have such a history list from which you can pick recently made entries or selections. Select the file SWIM2.WTR.
    • In the dialog field Window, click minimize.
    • Press Ok to close the dialog box. Wintrack opens the case document SWIM2.WTR.
  3. Click the Analyze button of the toolbar while pressing and holding down the Shift key. The Analyze Case Document dialog is displayed:
    • From the list box located next to the option labeled Variable definition, select the variables jmp and qog.
    • As you made selections in the list box, part of the dialog fields located underneath it may have changed their activation state. For now, you can accept the default values contained in these fields.
    • In the dialog field labeled Report, select the option merge.
    • In the dialog field labeled Trial range and blocks, set block size to 0.
    • In the dialog field labeled Time window, select the option from begin and enter 120 for duration [s] and 0 for offset [s].
    • Click Ok to close the dialog box and start the analysis.
  4. Click the Open Case Document button of the toolbar while pressing and holding down the Shift key. The Open Case Document dialog is displayed. Open the case file SWIM3.WTR. You may again use the history list of the dialog field labeled case file.
  5. Click the Analyze Merge button of the toolbar without pressing the Shift key. The Analyze Case Document dialog is not displayed. Instead, Wintrack processes SWIM3.WTR using the same selections you made when using the command the last time.
  6. Double click the scrollsheet icon to restore its window. If you scroll to the right, you will notice that two columns have been added to the scrollsheet, named jmp and qog.
  7. Select Close All from Wintrack's Window menu. Click No whenever you are asked whether you wish to save a document before closing.

Lesson 5 - Acquiring new data demonstrates how to acquire "pseudo" data using the computer mouse.
